If you live anywhere in the southern United States, you know that termites are a huge pest and liability for your home. With over 50 species of termites found in the United States, the most commonly found termite in Tennessee is the Eastern subterranean termite. Like all termites, they live and feed on wood and anything containing cellulose. These pests need moisture and soil contact to live which is why they usually begin invading the home from beneath the structure.
Termites are usually found under the ground “below the frost line, but above the water table and rock formations” (10.6.3). However, when they find their way up to any exposed wood, they can get to it very easily because they can fit into openings only 1/16 inches wide! These critters are actually constantly eating making their damage more intense than most pests.
This is where we come in! At Preventive Pest Control, we work to protect your home against these destructive wood-boring creatures. We work with Sentricon to drill holes into the ground to place stations around the exterior of the home and place bait inside these stations. Fortunately, the bait in these stations contains cellulose which is a termite’s favorite meal. The termites will search for more of this bait and carry it back to their colonies, making your home termite-free and damage-free.
According to the National Pest Management Association, on average, termites cause about $5 billion worth of home damage each year in the United States (NPMA). This damage is not covered in homeowner’s insurance, so the earlier you get protection, the better! Like we always say, in Tennessee, it’s not a matter of if but when a home will get hit with termites.
