The dragonfly is fascinating in different ways- each type has brightly colored bodies that have inspired many works of art and few tall tales.
They are diverse and come in many different shapes, sizes and colors. Some can grow up to 5 inches long. Their wingspan can be just as long as their entire body. They are very fierce predators and will attack just about anything they can snatch. Not to be alarmed though, the dragonfly is harmless to humans and feed upon insects, worms, mosquitoes, midge, fish and even small frogs. This is also true to the nymphs.
Like a butterfly, their wings have lines that look like they could be symmetrical, but the line pattern is not symmetrical like a butterfly, the lines you see are actually their veins. The heart pumps the blood into the wings through these veins. They are fascinating fliers and can out fly a predatory bird.
